serenity now...

i don't know how she does it...
but she is able to achieve the look and feel of serenity in her home and garden.

being a bit of a hoarder,
and unable to not go head over heels with any interesting display of
 colour, patterns and texture...
i don't have the discipline to do it.

starting from the vignette at the front steps...
my sister has mastered the art of minimal decor.

while i sit in her garden, i can feel my body relaxing and my mind calming itself.
i think this is because the space she has created is uncluttered yet very comforting.

the pieces she has chosen are stunning...
not only because of their simplicity,
but also in how they blend with the natural elements that they are placed in.

the unclutteredness gives each item breathing space.
and this space allows the viewer,  the ability to breath in the same spaciousness
(be it in their mind, or in their body)

the serenity is quite uncanny...
because she has a houseful of young, energetic children.

but every summer i visit here... i find it.
if i were a little bird...
i would nest here !!!
 if i were a pixie....
this would be my garden !!!
and if i were aspiring to become a monk...
studying and practising the mahamudra...
 i would call this home.

p.s. i forgot to tell you that it's the perfect setting for an alberta beef bbq.

  1. This is lovely! I'm the same as you - never quite getting the simplicity of design down right. But one day, maybe! (And in the meantime, perhaps our clutter is beautiful in its own way.)

  2. Thanks Erica, it's a lovely thing to view your home through another persons eyes - especially when it's so flattering!
