it was a scorching day of summer in calgary, ...
perfect for checking out a new hiking trail.
so we headed towards big hill springs provincial park
we started early (before 10 a.m.) so the park was still fairly empty of other hikers.
there were beautiful rock walls and crevices for climbing and exploring.
this unusual rock is called tufa (pronounced too-fah)
we followed a rigorous trail that took us around a big loop around the park.
halfway through the trail, we found a beautiful teepee structure of fallen trees...
but best of all... a delightful spring that brought wonderful water to the park
there were numerous waterfalls to admire and play in.
lots of logs to balance on and countless rocks to skip over...
the spring water was FREEZING... but the kids' feet didn't seem to mind!!
and finally, after climbing, and hiking and more climbing...
the girls found a perfect rock for a souvenir photo.
