while we were visiting in alberta, canada
we spent a morning hiking the big hill in big hill springs provincial park.
this unique park is located approximately 30 minutes outside of calgary,
between the towns of airdrie and cochrane.
we arrived at the park before 10 am and got a head start to beat the crowd.
it's a good thing that we started early because it got very warm.on the hill because the path we followed was fully exposed to the sun.
the climb to the top of the hill was gradual
and what i would consider intermediate in difficulty.
but it was worth the hard work,
because the scenes from each rise in elevation were beautiful.
lucky me...
i was able to slow ian down so he could take a picture of my sister and me.
all throughout the hill were these beautiful wild flowers....
the ground was covered with them !!!
the ground was covered with them !!!
my sister knew the names of most ...
i should have written them down but i was in that mesmerized state where
the ability to process such factual information was just not in my range..
the big hill of the park was definitely a thing of beauty...
but stay tuned and watch for my future post about
'the springs' of big hill springs provincial park.
that was the other part of this prairie hiking adventure.

Wow, looks like an amazing spot to hike.
ReplyDeletethe best part about it was that there were very few people, mostly locals, hiking when we got there. we stopped at Banff and Lake Louise- the number of tourists has skyrocketed...
