camping on newcastle

we went camping last weekend...
it was our first for this summer... so all the packing took extra long !!!
packing is the part of camping i like the least / dislike the most...
but because i was so excited for our destination,  it wasn't so bad at all.

we actually left vancouver island and crossed over to.... newcastle island.
(to read about the ferry ride over and back, please read "island hopping" )
traditionally known as saysutshun by the snuneymuxw people,
newcastle island is a marine provincial park (since 1961) located in nanaimo's harbour.

we had the most beautiful campsite !!!!
since we were camping as a group (seven families in total),
our designated tent sites had a panoramic view of the water.
there was a sheltered eating area, just in case of inclement weather....
but instead we used it for shade
because it was hot hot hot !

and of course there were also raccoon proof storage bins !!!
our family, didn't need one....
we brought our very own anti-raccoon proofer.
it was a fabulous weekend !!
full of great conversation...
of suicidal hammock swinging...
of long beautiful walks to the bathroom ( complete with flush toilets and hot showers )....
of beautiful music and wonderful people....
of quiet, serene, peaceful mornings....
of cozy outdoor nesting....
and of spectacular beauty all around us!!!

yes.....
it was very memorable weekend !!!

we are coming back for sure...
maybe next time, with our very own kayaks!!
