the spirit garden

every morning, when most of our neighbours are still asleep...
and the streets are still empty of vehicles, harlow and i go for our walk.

i love this time of the morning because it is so quiet and peaceful, and harlow loves it too because he can walk off leash through our neighbourhood.

one of the loveliest stretches of our journey is only
within two blocks from our house,

welcome to the spirit garden.

brick archways allow entry into this 0.2 hectare park.
a beautiful and lush oasis in the middle of the city.

the garden is basically on two vacant property lots that butt onto each other.
i'm not sure of the history of the property, whether old homes were torn down or who the generous benefactor was....

a ninety- five metre curving gravel footpath permits access from both
kings street and newton street in the oaklands neighbourhood of victoria.

developed and maintained by a motivated group of volunteers,
the garden is filled with an abundance of plants.

you'll find bleeding hearts, geraniums, poker plants,
magnolias, rhododendrons and many more.

the colour display is always changing with the seasons...

harlow and i walk through everyday of the year
and have always been delighted with the flower show

there is a comfortable wooden bench under a shady tree.
a beautiful spot for reading, or just to sit and say hello to the passersby.

the park is along the creek bed of bowker creek.
the creek is underground , at this garden, as it is over much of its length.
currently, there are efforts to restore this watershed.

it is such a treat to go through the spirit garden,
we follow its path every chance it falls close to our route to a destination.

harlow and i would love to linger at the garden much longer,
but we still have a good portion of our walk to cover....
then back to home to wake up the sleepy kidlings so they won't be late for school.

do you get to walk through a garden during your day?
i would love to hear about it,,,

  1. Looks just lovely. I walk through my own garden, if that counts. And we walk in the woods at least once a day.
