thrifted threads: scarf turned kimono

it's another ;what i wore wednesday;...
and i'm playing along with lindsey at the pleated poppy.

today, i'm wearing an old scarf which i've tweaked into a kimono.

i've had this square scarf for ages (i bought it during my university days).
i have held on to it because i love the colours in its patterns,
but i could never figure out how to wear it.
so it sat in my scarf drawer... almost making it to the donate pile a couple of times.

after viewing a youtube scarf tutorial that a friend had posted.... i was inspired.
the tutorial had suggested tying knots to transform the scarf into a kimono
but i took it one step further
and actually sewed arm holes (a.k.a. sleeves)

it was so super simple...

all i did was:
(i) fold the scarf in half
(ii)  about a three or four inches below (depending on the size of your arm)
and parallel to the fold, hand stitched a straight line about the width of your arm.
(iii) repeat on the other side.

this straight line stitching will become the sleeves for the kimono.
i tried to photograph the sleeves in the pictures below.

anyways... it\s a fantastic trick that i'm so tickled pink with ! !

not only do i now utilize a gorgeous, old scarf that i couldn't seem to let go of,
i also have a kimono, an easy to wear fashion piece i've always loved.
