when on strike...homeschool !!!
we are into the second week of september and
british columbia public schools are still not in session.
the bc teachers' federation (bctf) and
the bc public school employers' association (bcpsea)
are still trying to negotiate a new collective agreement.
there are rumors that the strike could continue until november !!!
instead of getting frustrated, i resort to plan b... WORKBOOKS.
for now we are concentrating on the sciences and math
(subjects, i have confidence in tutoring)
i've also found websites for english curriculum
i'm going to use them even if the reading list is for the wrong school district.
at least the novels on the list would be at the grade appropriate level.
we have all our fingers and toes crossed
that negotiations will succeed and school will open.
for now my children and i are trying a different rhythm to our days.
homeschooling after breakfast (yay... math),
more homeschooling after lunch (hiphiphurray....science),
and recesses will be spent walking the dog to the library.

Oh wow, I didn't realize British Columbia schools were on strike! That's terrible! It looks like you're doing a good job of keeping the children learning at home. I hope the schools open soon!
ReplyDeletethe hardest part is keeping them focused.. they are great friends who both like to distract the other. thanks for popping by.
DeleteI had heard about that strike. Not fun. Are they in danger of losing their year? Let's hope they get things settled soon.
ReplyDeletewe are in the only highschool with a linear system in victoria... so hopefully once things get settled they will still have time to catch up. thanks Kim
