thrifted threads: fifty shades of grey

no ... i haven't watched the movie (and don't plan to !)
i have read the first of the series... and thought it read more like fifty shades of disappointment (only my personal opinion)
if you are looking for really good erotica... i would suggest the works of marguerite duras, henry miller or anais nin.

however, i needed something catchy for the title of this 'what i wore wednesday' post.
and yes... i'm linking up with lindsey at the pleated poppy for some fashion fun !!!

i found this thrifted variegated grey sweater last summer
and is one of the most comfortable of things i have to wear.
i actually found it in the men's section of the thrift shop
but ended not giving it to my son because i liked it so much

there are no tags on the sweater, so i couldn't tell you where it originated
but it washes easily and feels like a cotton blend

i wear it with blue grey slacks (also thrifted from a while back)
and a variegated grey necklace i picked up from one of the local vendors at our moss street market.

although i would not, could not, will not recommend the book or the movie...
i'll give this grey sweater two thumbs up.

happy humpday everybody !!!

thrifted threads: pink pink everywhere

welcome to another
"what i wore wednesday"
when i link up with lindsey for some fashion fun.

february is a beautiful month in victoria, b.c.
it is during this time of the year...
that the blooms decide to start their show.

there is pink, pink, and more pink everywhere in our city
and i decided to camouflage myself for this thrifted thread post.

i have blogged about this pink top before
i found it in a little thrift shop during our travels this past summer.
pink has never been at the top of my favourites of colours to wear.
except, of course, when i'm inspired by the cherry blossoms of february.

happy humpday everyone!!!

thrifted threads: back to woollies

the rain has come back and so has the damp weather...
brrrr... and right through to my bones !
so i pull on my woollies, because fleece
just won't do the trick for this west coast momma.

welcome to 'what i wore' wednesday.
i'm linking up with lindsey for some fashion fun.
won't you join us???

yup...it's another thrift shop sweater !
fyi...most of my clothes (99.999%) have been thrifted
or handed down to me from my three younger, stylish and so lovely sisters.
this is a conscious choice of mine and my way of doing my bit
with the whole reduce, reuse and recycle movement
(besides - it is also so much fun !)

for a mere toonie, (since it was 'any sweaters for a toonie' day),
i rescued this beautiful handmade wool pull over
from the thrift shop bin a few seasons ago.
i figured if it didn't look good on me, i could always unravel it for the yarn.

i took it home and ended up loving it.
it's perfect to wear over a long sleeve t-shirt and a pair of comfy jeans.
i think it might have some angora in it because of all the long fibres...
but surprisingly, it isn't a bit itchy.

for extra warmth and a touch of colour
i added a matching scarf
(a christmas gift from long ago from ian and my kidlums)

yes...it may be raining and a bit chilly and oh so damp.
but like other well seasoned west coasters...
i've got my woollies to keep me warm and cozy !!!

wishing you all a beautiful wednesday...

thrifted threads: stripey dress

welcome to 'what i wore' wednesday
where i link up with lindsey at the pleated poppy
and blog what i actually wore tuesday (did you follow that ramble??)

my free pass to the art gallery came in yesterday
so we went to check out the current exhibitions.
have i already told you how wonderful our library is in victoria?
we are so lucky because there are so many cultural venues
made available to residents through the library system.

so...because the mild weather has stayed with us,
i wore this thrifted striped dress.

originally... the dress (size extra larger) was huge on me.
but with some minor alterations under the arms and in the length,
it's perfect and very comfortable to wear.

i paired it with some grey leggings and an indigo scarf...
and i was ready to go.

the gallery exhibits were wonderful...
i really enjoyed 'in another place, and here',
a collaboration of eight artists and their amazing photography.
if you are in victoria... it is worth a visit.

thrifted threads: sick of sweaters

the last time i checked it was still january...
but i am already sick of sweaters
so i'm boycotting my woollies for the day.

welcome to 'what i wore wednesday'
i'm joining lindsey and the ladies for some fashion fun.

we have been lucky on the island
because the temperature has been hovering
around 10 degrees celsius during the day
with mr golden sun making lots of appearances.

i found this thrifted cotton blouse this past autumn.
i have a real weakness for comfortable colourful clothing
and couldn't resist the $3 price tag.
seriously... who could???

the jeans were thrifted as well... now old and comfortable.
it was the perfect outfit of choice
because my daughter's high school dance class
was performing last night (and again tonight)
and it got extremely warm in the auditorium.

wishing you all a wonderful wednesday !!!

thrifted threads: beaded treasure

it's another 'what i wore' wednesday
and i'm linking up with lindsey
at the pleated poppy for some fashion fun.

i had to meet up with some fellow steppers
for coffee after the gym yesterday...
and i needed something easy to put on and throw in my backpack
since there wasn't any time to pop back home beforehand.
so this was my outfit:
a crumpled (because it was shoved into a gym bag) long sleeve tshirt ;
 yoga pants (because i was cycling there and back);
and a thrifted rainbow beaded necklace i found over a year ago.
let's just say... the necklace made the outfit.
it is a really lovely piece
that could be worn with so many colours.
when you study it closely... it looks hand crafted.
i love the gold chain and the weighted gold beads at the end of each strand.
we had a wonderful time over coffee...
i've been stepping with some of these women for over 10 years now
and it is always such a treat to meet up and see how we look
after a shower and out of our gym attire.

after the holidays, everyone seemed to have
 a chocolate confession to share.
(i think that you've already heard mine...)

happy humpday everyone !!!

thrifted threads: teal

welcome to another
'what i wore wednesday'
i'm linking up with lindsey to join in with the fashion fun.

i'm gravitating towards really comfortable and easy outfits this week,
as i tackle the post holiday season chores
and try to get back into my everyday routine.

victoria's temperature is hitting double digits this next week...
and the rain has finally stopped (hurray !!)
so i've been getting away with just a couple of layers of light wool.

i'm wearing a thrifted wool turtleneck that i found before the holidays.
i was drawn to it because of the its shade of teal...
but finding out that it was made of 100% wool
made its $3 price tag irresistible.

i've been trying to limit any purchasing (even thrift store finds)
as i continue on my decluttering challenge
but with this sweater, i couldn't resist.

the scarf/cowl was salvaged from a silk taffeta skirt i shortened.
the colour of the scarf is a beautiful match for the sweater
and its silk content makes it so wonderfully warm to wear.

the faded black pants must be at least 20 years old
and a hand-me-down from my sister.
they are so comfortable and perfect
as i manoeuvre back into a
no-more holiday chocolate phase of healthy eating.

happy first hump day for 2015 everyone !!!

thrifted threads: charcoal and blue

welcome to another
'what i wore wednesday'
today, i'm linking up with lindsey for some fashion inspiration.

it has been a busy couple of days around here.
poor harlow... doesn't know if any of us are coming or going.

because the weather has been so cooperative
i've been popping in and out of shops, meeting up with friends
and crossing things off on my list with just my woolly sweaters.

this long charcoal sweater is a hand me down from my little sister.
i'm sure she wore it through her first pregnancy,
so it should be about thirteen years old.

this sweater is wonderful
not only because it goes down to my knees and keeps me warm
but the wool is thin enough so i can wear it all year round

the charcoal turtle neck is a thrifted treasure.
so soft, comfortable and warm... a mix of cotton and cashmere.

finally, the blue scarf is for extra warmth and a shot of colour.

wishing you all a wonderful wednesday.
ho ho ho !!!

thrifted threads: brown and turquoise

welcome to another
'what i wore wednesday'
i'm linking up with lindsey for some fashion fun.

today, it's about brown and turquoise...
a simple brown, long sleeve tshirt on top of a turquoise tank
with a matching necklace,
a coordinating scarf,
and a suede sweater for a warm top layer.

all pieces were thrifted...
all at least a couple of years old...
all comfortable to the max...
perfect for all the hustle and bustle of the season.

wishing you all a happy hump day !!!

thrifted threads: burgundy

welcome to another
'what i wore wednesday'
today, i'm linking up with lindsey for some fashion fun

unbeknownst to me... this is suppose to be the colour of the season.
my hygienist wanted the source of my sweater...
even my daughter was eye-ing it.

well, unlucky for them,
this burgundy sweater
was a thrifted handmade find !!

i spotted this hand knit wool cardigan a couple of summers ago,
a season when all the sweaters
at the thrift store goes on sale.

nobody noticed it when i wore it last winter
(i don't know what colour was in season then?)
but it seems to be getting a lot of admiration this year.

hope you are all keeping warm and cozy in your woolies this season.
as i write this post, it looks like another frosty morning
but sun sun sun all day.

thrifted threads: lavender

it was the winter we were in arizona...
checking out the grand canyon,
when i walked into this lavender room,
in a little pottery shop in sedona
and immediately made up my mind to paint our bedroom the same colour.

it took me ages to find the perfect tint
but once i did... i've never regretted it
the lavender is sooooo warm, cozy and lovely
to wake up to and go to sleep in.

today, i'm wearing the exact (it's very, very close) same shade of lavender
welcome to another "what i wore wednesday'

 this thrifted lavender turtleneck
is a treasure i found a few of years ago
the pashmina was a birthday present from my daughter.

with all the rain that came down in the last couple of days,
the weather has turned mild again.
this sweater/shawl combination was all i needed
to get my running around done.

happy hump day everyone !!!

thrifted threads: purple scarf

hurray !!!
the purple scarf is finished

welcome to another 'what i wore wednesday'
when i link up with lindsey for some fashion inspiration

after finding some thrifted yarn...
my knitting needles were quick to knit this simple scarf
it didn't take long, even though i am not a very fast knitter.

it was such a fun and easy project to do
and wearing it has been just as much fun.

as you can see,
i wore the scarf three ways...
i'm so glad that it was long enough for a full wrap around the neck.

i paired with an old crew neck cotton pullover that i've had for years,
it was the perfect purple match !!!

i'm definitely a lover of scarves.
needless to say, my knitting needles currently busy with another one.

thrifted threads: fringe

the weather man has forecasted sun and chill for victoria.... hurray !!!
everyone is pulling out all their favourite sweaters...including me.

welcome to 'what i wore'  wednesday
when i link up with lindsey for some fashion fun.

this thrift shop find is another one of my favourites.
it was sitting in the boutique section of the thrift store just waiting to be rescued
i think the only reason no one scooped it up (before me)
was because it was the middle of summer.

it's a really easy and fun piece to wear.
i love all of the fringe
and the fact that it goes great with my favourite jeans.

i'm meeting up with some wonderful moms i met
at baby group sixteen years ago.
i'm dressed and ready to go !!!

thrifted threads: layering oxblood

oxblood

according to wikipedia
oxblood is a color considered to be a dark shade of red,
resembling burgundy, but has more purple and dark brown hues !!!

prior to writing this post, i didn't even know oxblood was a colour .
you really do learn something new everyday !!!

welcome to 'what i wore' wednesday
i'm joining lindsey for some fashion fun

i found this tunic in halifax, nova scotia ... over 10 years ago
it was sitting in a dollar bin outside one of the vintage stores by the old library.

originally a dress that went down to my knees,
i shortened it into a tunic
(just because i was in a tunic phase at the time)

for extra warmth...
i layer it with a wool vest that i inherited
from my friend cathy a few years ago.

made with 100% lambswool,
the vest is perfect when the temperature dips below 10 degrees celsius

we were both channeling our inner buddhists at the time
and couldn't get enough burgandy into our wardrobe.

finally... for the last layer of coziness,
just in case that north wind decides to chill the air even more...
i add a scarf to the ensemble for insurance.

this was a christmas gift from my adorable mother-in-law.
again, from a little shop in the annapolis valley of nova scotia.

it really is so lovely to be wearing so many fond memories with each layer.
are you wearing any sentimentality today???
