we were walking around the neighbourhood, searching for the nearest grocery store, when we stumbled upon this...
the grande mosque of paris, built to commemorate the sacrifice of thousands of muslims who died for france during the first world war.
the influence of the moores is definitely an inspiration for this place.
it brought back very fond memories of our past visits to spain and portugal...
but no, we are still in paris !!
since i was wearing a short sleeveless dress, i was given wrap around skirt and shawl to borrow and wear during our visit and tour of the mosque.
no bare shoulders or legs allowed (at least for women, that is)!!!
afterwards, we enjoyed some mint tea and some turkish pastries
at the colourful and beautiful adjoining tea room
a couple of hours later we remembered that we were suppose to be hunting for
a grocery store to pick up some milk so the kids could eat their cereal...
we quickly got on our way, knowing we are definitely bringing the sleeping teens
back to check out this beautiful place.
