thrifted threads: kaftan and roses

welcome to 'what i wore wednesday'
today, i'm linking up with lindsey for fashion fun.

i'm not exaggerating when i say that there are roses blooming
almost everywhere in our garden city.
right now, they are in a state of utter gorgeousness...
as the temperature rises, i pull out my kaftans for comfort wear.
i've posted about these mexican kaftans before,
and they continue to be some of my summer favourites.
in the pictures, it seems like i'm wearing the kaftan like a dress,
but i've actually paired them with my favourite jean shorts.
do you see the elephant motif?

easy, comfy kaftans...
to enjoy the roses with !!

fun stuff 06/09/15

my teal scrap blanket...
photographed on my knitting adirondack chair.
this blanket is knitting up really quickly (compared to the fuchsia blanket)
i think it is because i'm really comfortable in this side of the colour spectrum,
so combining colours of blues and greens are a breeze.
i'm reading an illustrated abridged version of herman melville's moby dick.
i found this version by jan needle in one of the little free libraries in our neighbourhood.

i remember attempting to read melville at university...
i think i made it to the chapter where queequeg and ismael become roommates
(not very far at all...hehehe)

i wanted to read the story before seeing the movie,
have you seen it yet????
what are you knitting? reading?
care to share?

finding shade under the roses

the temperature over the weekend
went from warm...to warmer....to warmest
and everyone was looking for shade.

there is this beautiful spot under
a canopy of roses (in the gardens of government house)  that we simply love
and lucky us...no one was there when we got there.
that was yesterday...and now, feeling refreshed and rested...
i'm ready to greet the brand new week and all it has to bring.

hello monday !!!
hello fame...the highschool's production of fame is playing this wednesday and thursday evening...the kids have worked so hard and rehearsed so often...i know both shows are going to be great....i have two extra tickets if anyone is interested??

hello wide open windows at night that has to be shut mid day...isn't it wonderful to sleep with all the fresh air circulating in?  unfortunately, because of the heat, i have to remember to shut them all so the house doesn't absorb all the midday heat.
hello car wash...one of our neighbours, a professional house painter, informed ian that bird poop eats right through the car's enamel and causes rust....bucket of water and soap to the rescue!!!

hello mountains of laundry to climb...sometimes it feels like i have five kids instead of two when i look at all the laundry they produce.  thank goodness for the warmer weather...no more layering for at least a couple of months
hello harbour air...ian is off to the mainland...and needs a lift to catch his plane from victoria's inner harbour (just a minute...let me find my chauffeur's cap)

hello friends...wishing you all a wonderful start to your week!!

multislacking....

you're my nemo.
if you get lost
in the great, big ocean,
i'll find you.
                  - unknown
it was a spectacular kind of day
the weather was beautiful and perfect for multislacking!!!

with the school year coming to an end, and exams just around the corner...
my two teens have been busy tying up loose ends, finishing projects,
and handing in assignments.
they are tired (and stressed?!?!?)...and both just want to stay in pajamas all day.

but this momma has got her methods... and it actually doesn't take much
to entice them to come along for a walk by the ocean

sunshine, fresh air, and a little booster juice treat to sip on a hot day...
so conducive to good conversation.
once you get them started,
it's amazing how much they have to tell us!!!

flapping those flops

hurray...it's the weekend
it's time to get those floppy ears flapping!!!
harlow loves the beach so much...and we are happy to oblige
the minute his paws sink into the sand,
he spins himself into happy oblivion...
but there is nothing better,
than meeting up with a friend.
wishing you all a wonderful weekend !!!

a moment
a friday ritual, a singe photo,
no words, capturing a moment from the week.
a simple, special, extraordinary moment
i want to pause, savour and

coffee's brewing...

                                                       an open hand

the mind is not a storeroom
                       with mirrors where we retreat
                       to convince ourselves
                       that we exist.

the mind is a livingroom with
windows and more than one chair,
so friends can come and look out
                       and discuss what they see.

not a fortress where we frisk and
strip others of what they believe
in order to share our secrets.

                       more a porch with birdfeeders
and coffee or tea where before
hello, you have to share a story.

                       pull the curtains!
                       open the windows!
                       brew the coffee!
put out a sign: other views wanted!

                                     - mark nepo
i came upon nepo's beautiful words a couple of weeks ago...
don't you just love his imageries of an open mind???

i'm so grateful for all the wonderful blogs i get to visit,
for those i've yet to discover,
and for all the creative spirits fueling them.
this blogging business  sure has been one mind opening experience for me!
we are all on this journey called life...and i think blogging is such a wonderful way to share our individual experiences.

i've read nepo's poem over a dozen times already,
and each time, by the end, i can't help but think...
wouldn't it be wonderful, when after the kettle has boiled,
the coffee has brewed and the tea has steeped
that you would come and sit a while with me ?
