birthday weekend

a special someone turned 14

to celebrate.... we had a birthday weekend all weekend long 
(starting early on friday)

after blowing out the candles

we planned and spent the weekend...

eating the food she loves:  

bacon and eggs; sushi... sushi...and more sushi; 

cheesecake; ceasar salad with extra croutons; 5th street pizza

doing the things she loves:  

hiking and talking and kicking the soccer ball around; 

value villaging; skating; going for bubble tea

watching videos 'divergent' and 'carrie'

a stack of dainty

ian had some work in duncan, b.c. this past week,

guess who got to tag along for a day trip.

duncan is a quaint little town just an hour north of victoria.

it has some several unique shops and 

probably my favourite coffee/ bookstore venue 
in all of the island.

i had a wonderful day browsing the shops,

meeting up with a friend for lunch at the garage

and then knitting and people watching 
while i waited for ian to finish work.

 i wanted to show you what i found at the local thrift store

a stack of dainty, crocheted snowflakes...

aren't they simply precious?

i found them in the christmas corner,

in a little box amongst the ornaments

selling for 5 cents a piece.

i bought the entire lot

fifty five hand crocheted 

and starched snowflakes 

and couple of angels.

i've always wanted to learn how to crochet.

with these dainty inspirations,

this might just be the year !!!

moment 11/14/14

a moment

a friday ritual, a single photo, no words, capturing a moment from the week
a simple, special, extraordinary moment
i want to pause, savour and 
remember.

sketchings....

two things you will find throughout our home:  

dirty socks (i'm constantly picking them up) and my son's sketchings.

they are everywhere.

i found these on the computer desk this morning.

i used to save all of his artwork,

i have binders and folders and more boxes of his early artwork 

but i couldn't keep up,

he draws in such a prolific rate...

he draws while he studies, while he watches movies, while he eats...

i'm sure the drawing helps him process things mentally and emotionally

i've written about my special resident artist before.

there are times when the litter of sketches throughout the house 

drive me BONKERS !!!

but mostly, they make me smile

knowing that his creativity is flowing.

thrifted threads: fringe

the weather man has forecasted sun and chill for victoria.... hurray !!!

everyone is pulling out all their favourite sweaters...including me.

welcome to 'what i wore'  wednesday 

when i link up with lindsey for some fashion fun.

this thrift shop find is another one of my favourites.

it was sitting in the boutique section of the thrift store just waiting to be rescued

i think the only reason no one scooped it up (before me) 

was because it was the middle of summer.

it's a really easy and fun piece to wear.

i love all of the fringe

and the fact that it goes great with my favourite jeans.

i'm meeting up with some wonderful moms i met 
at baby group sixteen years ago.

i'm dressed and ready to go !!!

knitting and reading: 11/11/14

 my needles are still busy with the purple scarf 

i decided to go for an extra long wrapper 

and use the special variegated yarn for accenting each end. 

it's turning out quite lovely,

it should be finished within days...

one of the books that i am currently reading is

jack kornfield's  after the ecstasy, the laundry

i heard about this book through one of eckhart tolle's videos

and was captivated by the title.

even before reading it,  i blogged about it here

i'm so glad our local public library finally got a copy  !!!
