tree huggery

i didn't turn on a computer during the holidays,
so lately, i've been blogging and sharing highlights of our trip.

meanwhile....
back in the homestead (ha ha)
we spent the weekend in the back yard,
trimming our english walnut tree.

well, ian did the physical climbing, trimming and cutting
while i did the laboursome mental work of choosing which branches go.
i'm relieved and happy to report...
that nothing got broken (all my plants are still intact)
and no one got hurt (ian is soaking in epsom salts as i blog this).

also, ian thoroughly enjoyed his afternoon of tree hugging (despite his fear of heights).

bye bye too much shade
hello more sunshine (for my first attempt at tomato plants)

smooth feet

the soul of the land
can be best felt
through the
soles of your
feet

                                            - pinterest
they say that nothing soothes the soul like walking the beach.
and now i can wholeheartedly agree.
i think this is especially true when you kick off your shoes
and let the water do its healing all through you.

we found several beautiful, non-ending beaches on our california holiday.
everyday, we would walk a couple of hours in one direction and then turn around and head back with resolutions of going even further the next day.

the water was warm, the sun was glorious, the sand was fine fine fine
and our feet were the smoothest and softest they've ever been.

basking elephants

it was a beautiful sunny day,
and these elephant seals were just laying there...
resting, enjoying, basking in the sun.

thrifted threads: blue sky, palm trees and denim

for two weeks, we were under the blue, bluer, bluest california skies!!
the palm trees were useless for shade but
they sure were stunning standing tall against the cloudless.
(i couldn't stop taking photos of them!!!)
for 'what i wore wednesday'
i'm wearing my stretchy denim jacket,
a blue t-shirt and my new-to-me indigo skirt
that i found in a thrift shop in a little town called san luis obispo.
i noticed several thrift stores during our travels,
but the palm trees and the endless sandy beaches helped quell my thrift addiction.
the palm trees (and fresh mexican food) were everywhere...
several times it seemed like we were in mexico, and not california.
yup...we filled up with salsa, tacos and burritos,
plus numerous big breakfasts (that came with our hotel accomodations)
so now the spring cleansing begins...
wishing you all a very happy hump day !!

fun stuff: blue and the bear

i brought my blue scrap blanket to california with me !!!

it kept me company while ian swam his laps in the pool...
and i was so happy when one of our hotel rooms
provided the perfect bay knitting window.
now that we are back home...
i thought i'd take a picture of it
on the pillows of the daybed on the back deck.
i've got my fingers crossed that the warm weather is here to stay.

it's growing (fast) !!!
my new bookclub book is claire cameron's the bear.
i don't know much about it but have already heard
 several raving testimonies from people.
what are you knitting? reading?
care to share?

blessed

blessed
are the curious
for they shall have
adventures

                                         -anonymous
we had a little over two weeks of march break,
and it was all we needed.

each of us packed a small bag of clothes and
a smaller one of cannot leave behind things...
then we were on our way down interstate five heading to california.

ian and i have not driven south of san fransisco before
and have been wanting to explore the area
between there and los angeles for some time now.

we were all aching for some sun, some warmth, some mexican salsa
and we found it (and more)!!!
we were and still are feeling truly blessed !!!

california dreaming

hello (i'm back !!!)
we got back from roaming/exploring the west coast five days ago
and yup... i'm still california dreaming !!!

we got really lucky with the weather and the people and the hotel accommodations
and the road conditions and the gas prices.
in other words, it was a really good trip !!!
(i will try and organized my photos and my head around sharing some of the highlights)

hope you are all well and happy
and enjoying this beautiful april fools day !!!
