the warmest part of the day in paris is late afternoon...

by 6:30 pm yesterday, our little apartment got a little too warm, 

so we decided to go for another stroll around our block.

we stumbled upon le jardin samuel-de-champlain, 

a beautiful little public garden behind the pere lachaise cemetary, 

and came upon this wall.

 can you see them????

fun stuff: sunny start

i started yet another one...

this time in sunny side of the colour spectrum

with lots of yellows, reds, oranges and occasional pinks.

i'm still at the stage of seeing if this combination works

and of feeling if i am going to like it enough to continue on.

ian has been reading these books for months now, 

and i have decided to finally pick them up and join him 

to see what the fuss is all about.

my friend at our library, was kind enough to extend our use of these books 

until the day after we get back home...thanks barb!!!

 also, i'm still working through 10 minutes of french a day

p.s.  i haven't spotted a single knitting shop in paris (yet!?!?)

joining frontier dreams and small things

weekending

during the first sunday of each month

paris opens all of its museums and galleries 

containing permanent collections

to the public

for FREE...

our first thought was 'oh no...it is going to be a gong show 

and that the line ups are going to be miles long'.

maybe we were here for the right sunday on the right month

because it turned out to be the most lovely day of art.

for our free sunday, we took in the picasso exhibit

and the moderns and contemporaries at the centre pompidou (WOW!!)

after 5 days of training, we have finally found our walking legs 

and are averaging 20 thousand steps or more a day.

our days usually start around 10 am and we are back in our apartment, 

exhausted and laden with groceries, by 5 pm.

once we sit down or put our feet up, it is very unlikely that anyone is going to be able to get up again (you would feel sorry for the last person standing who takes on the position of caterer for invalids!!)

due to the time change, my two teenagers are asleep by 8 pm (haha...that hasn't happened in years) so ian and i enjoy very quiet evenings of reading, knitting, wine and cheesing.

and then we do the same the following day...

coiffed on two wheels

coming from victoria, a cycling city extraordinaire,

and having our home situated on a cycling route....

i've seen many cyclists in my lifetime.

but paris breeds a totally different type....

immaculately coiffed, two inched heeled on two wheels

unlike the victoria, bc cyclist,

with their protective gear, cycling jackets and shoes....

parisienne women do not seem to bother with helmets.

hundreds of them pedal the streets wearing

the most beautiful boutique dresses and expensive shoes,

looking like they are off to work in some art gallery or museum.

oh,oh,oh... and their bike baskets are usually filled with fresh baguettes and flowers.

just like in the movies....

keeping our cool...

we've been planning this trip for months 

(ian must have read all the library books on paris...and renewed them at least twice over)

the only thing we didn't plan for was a heat wave....

yesterday, the temperature soared to 38 degrees celsius,

today, we are to reach the low of 36.!!!

our little rented apartment didn't come with an air conditioner...

but our landlord, pierre, greeted us with two brand new oscillating fans !!!

so...how will we keep cool during this heat wave 

that is suppose to last well into next week?

here are some ideas we came up with:

watermelon slices (erica)

put ice cubes in your undies (ian)

walk down the shady side of the street (libby)

go to a museum (ian)

ride air conditioned bus 69 (cole)

strappy tank tops and dresses like all the parisienne women are wearing!! (libby)

frequent cold showers (no need to wash hair every time) (libby)

big tall drinks with extra ice cubes (erica)

no (that's a capital NO) blankets while sleeping (cole)

if you have any other ideas,

we would love to hear it...

because it seems that we can't make ice cubes fast enough!!!

thrifted threads: indigo paris

welcome to 'what i wore wednesday'

i'm linking up with lindsey and the ladies for some fashion fun.

check it out...

we were walking towards the notre dame cathedral

and voila...look what we spotted in the display window???

the parisienne pantaloon, priced at a mere 55 euros

was made of the exact indigo fabric as my thrifted dress.

 yes...we made it to paris...during the middle of a heat wave

(it is going to hit 38 degrees celsius today)

after a quick and complete recovery from jet lag

our first day was spent checking out our district 

and getting acquainted with the bakeries, markets, chocolatiers,

and the beautiful notre dame cathedral
