knitting and reading: 12/09/14

i have another scarf on the go.
this time i'm using wool
that i've unravelled from an old sweater of mine.

i've been busy decluttering for a couple of months now,
going through my closet and donating most
of what i haven't worn or do not fit into any more.
i found this old sweater of mine,
tired and moth eaten and not donatable...

 so i unravelled it...
and ended up with two large balls of charcoal coloured wool.
the scarf is for a friend...
i added blue accents, her favourite colour, for texture and design.

if you are looking for a good fiction to read...
you might want to give ruth ozeki's
a tale of the time being
a try.

i started it a week ago and
i am almost finished because i couldn't put it down.
the story weaves through difficult topics such as
bullying, buddhist monkhood, prostitution, and suicide.
ozeki has such a great writing style that although the content is dark,
the reading is light and humorous at times.

if you read it... you'll have to tell me what you think?

hello monday: 12/08/14

ho...ho...ho!
we had a busy weekend of jingle mingling...
there is nothing better than getting together with friends
and sharing yummy food to kick off this christmas season.

the weather stayed balmy all weekend long...
perfect for long walks to the village to tackle more of
gift buying, package mailing, dog walking.

but now, i want to say....
hello monday !!!

i'm playing along with lisa
where i greet the brand new weekand all the gifts it brings.

hello  eating healthy... with the all the butter, cream and sugar lying around the house (in various guises of cookie forms)  i am forever emptying the crisper to make healthy meals for this family of mine.

hello gift wrapping... must add more tape on my shopping list for today so i can do more wrapping while i have the house to myself.

hello christmas movies... i'm picking up our favourite holiday movies from the library this week (a christmas carol, elf, and miracle on 34th)... then i must remember to pick up more popcorn.

it is going to be a busy and wonderful week...
full of little surprises and christmas cheer.
i've been very fortunate,
because everyone i run into
seem to be in the spirit of the holidays.

wishing you all a great start to your week.

moment: 12/05/14

a moment

a friday ritual, a single photo, no words, capturing a moment from the week
a simple, special, extraordinary moment
i want to pause, savour and
remember.

for the love of lichen

the sun came out
and shone all day
yesterday...

so bright... i was able to see all the dust bunnies,
all the sticky spots, and all the crumbly bits
that one misses while cleaning up on gray days.

after my kitchen was sparkling,
i spent the lovely afternoon with a friend.

we browsed through the library's collection of christmas cds,
sat and talked over cups of tea
before our hunt for christmas stocking stuffers,
then a long walk home
with our backpacks filled with goodies.

en route... we stumbled upon these.

the most beautiful collection of lichen
growing on a fence post.

simply breath taking...
don't you think???

thrifted threads: burgundy

welcome to another
'what i wore wednesday'
today, i'm linking up with lindsey for some fashion fun

unbeknownst to me... this is suppose to be the colour of the season.
my hygienist wanted the source of my sweater...
even my daughter was eye-ing it.

well, unlucky for them,
this burgundy sweater
was a thrifted handmade find !!

i spotted this hand knit wool cardigan a couple of summers ago,
a season when all the sweaters
at the thrift store goes on sale.

nobody noticed it when i wore it last winter
(i don't know what colour was in season then?)
but it seems to be getting a lot of admiration this year.

hope you are all keeping warm and cozy in your woolies this season.
as i write this post, it looks like another frosty morning
but sun sun sun all day.

knitting and reading: 12/02/14

i am so in love with my purple production
that i started another scarf
with the same pattern in fushia.

the yarn, (or should i say yarns) i used...
are a mix of leftovers and thrifted balls that i've found.
i have been having so much fun combining yarn because
it allows me to infuse texture wherever i like.

however, now that i'm almost done
i'm not too sure about the brown accent !?!?
together with the fushia,
the garishness factor seems to be too high.

while i decide whether or not to unravel,
i have my books
(and all my neglected chores...of course)

i picked up a copy of thoreau
from the church book/cd sale on sunday.

i am tickled pink to finally have my very own copy of walden...
in my quest of decluttering,
i've come across so much of thoreau
in films, magazine articles, and blogs.
for me, his life and his writing is beyond inspirational.

so much to knit...
so much to read...
this life is so delicious !!!!
